05/19/2022 Culture Miscommunication

Time is important, but it is the same in all cultures?

Brother Iver said that every culture has beliefs and practices about time and being early to meetings. As a Mexican, my parents taught me that punctuality is a big deal, but there is a famous phrase in Mexico that says: is better to be late than to arrive dead. It means that it is okay to be late if you had a problem arriving on time.
I agree, but I believe in planning and preventing accidents that can happen. Monochronic versus polychronic is part of a culture, it can show respect or disrespect to others. It could also make people feel they are not important.
Punctuality in the classroom has a lot to cover in the relationship between student and teacher. Some teachers can be very mad at some students for arriving late, and others believe in punctuality and cooperation. Is just that if the student arrives late, after class the teacher talk with them and offers to give them the class after.
I am a monochronic person and think time rules the business and respect the polychronic sector and their belief that feelings and hurts are important in communication.
